Collection includes original patent documents from Douglas Aircraft Company; issues of industry magazines Douglas Airview and Flying; and Air Force flight manuals for the Lockheed F-104 A/B Starfighter (1964), Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II (1975), Boeing YC-14 (1977), McDonnell F-4C Phantom II (1979), General Dynamics F-16A/B (1979), and Rockwell B-1A (1980). There are also original drafting drawings of an F86D (undated), and F100-A (1972) aircraft, and a Pratt & Whitney J57 jet engine with afterburner (1951).

This is a typescript made from the original owned by Mrs. Nora Jarvis of Saint George, Utah. It is an autobiography written by George Albert Smith (1817-1875) and covers the time period from his birth in 1817 to his missionary work in England in 1840. Smith writes of his childhood in New York; his first introduction to Mormonism and his subsequent conversion; his service in Zion's Camp and role as one of Joseph Smith's bodyguards; and his work in preaching the gospel, including details of his travels to Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and England, as well as descriptions of the persecutions he and his fellow Mormons experienced in their efforts.

The collection has several strong subject points for the purpose of research including journalism and the writing process and the history of Los Angeles. There are many letters written during World War II that discuss life in America as well as abroad, especially Iwo Jima. The bulk of the collection includes correspondence to Smith from his readers, many of whom were persons of note, and Smith's own subject files of topics often discussed in his columns. The manuscripts include a number of Smith's notebooks as well as drafts of essays and monographs. The ephemera includes appearances of Smith's columns, photographs of Smith's work and family, and printed materials related to Smith's work and family life.
