This collection contains the records of the Pasadena Playhouse, a community theater established in Pasadena, California, in 1917. Materials consist primarily of theater programs, scrapbooks, business records, correspondence, clippings, scripts, school catalogues, brochures and ephemera, indexes, photographs, original drawings of set and costume designs, and research materials originally housed in the organization's library. The materials document the performance history of the various theaters of the Playhouse and also contain partial administrative records and school records, with particular strength in coverage for the "Mainstage" theater and an extensive run of programs and performance photographs. The core records are strengthened by the complementary personal paper collections of directors, performers, and others associated with the Playhouse.

The collection contains 10,454 semi-cataloged items andis housed in 72 boxes and 3 oversize folders. The collection documents Loren Miller's four decades of fighting for equality and civil rights and his legal work against racial real estate covenants and discrimination in housing. It contains material related to his work with several organizations including the NAACP, National Urban League and the ACLU. The collection also contains material related to Loren Miller's personal life and family as well as his journalism career and ownership of the California eagle. The collection also contains many items related to Langston Hughes including letters written between Miller and Hughes and copies of some of Hughes' writings. The collection contains the following types of material: correspondence, telegrams, postcards, manuscripts, speeches, newspaper and magazine clippings, publications including full magazines, briefs and other legal documents, brochures, meeting minutes, reports and photographs as well as research notes for and drafts of Miller's book The petitioners: The story of the Supreme Court of the United States and the Negro.

The collection, which is made up of approximately 1,110 items, consists of manuscripts and correspondence related to the life and writings of Norreys Jephson O'Conor. The letters are addressed to O'Conor from a number of literary figures, most of them dating from O'Conor's stay in California between 1940 and 1958. There are a sizable number of carbon copies of O'Conor's letters, thus forming in many cases a complete correspondence. The manuscripts are mostly by O'Conor, including notes, autograph and typewritten copies of many of his poems and essays. Correspondents in the collection include: Conrad Potter Aiken, William Rose Benet, Elizabeth Bowen, Van Wyck Brooks, Arthur Bryant, Pearl S. Buck, Charles Bruce Catton, T.S. Eliot, John Gould Fletch, Maxwell Struthers Burt, Robert Frost, Oliver St. John Gogarty, Walter Lippmann, Christopher Morley, John Hall Wheelock, Howard Moss, Rolfe Humphries, Robert Linscott, Compton Mackenzie, Kenneth Roberts, Garrett Mattingly, Samuel Eliot Morison, Howard Nemerov, Allan Nevins, Robert Malise Bowyer Nichols, Victoria Mary Sackville-West, Emily Hilda Young. There are also some watercolors done by O'Conor.
