"...Second edition, but first to contain the plates. ... With 26 plates printed in color in black, yellow, red, and blue, rendered using the Le Blond technique ... A rare work in the history of color printing. Madame Angélique Marguerite Le Boursier du Coudray (1715-1794), was the most famous midwife of the 18th century. Her task (for which she was royally appointed by Louis XV) was to teach the art of childbirth to the largely illiterate female population of France. In this second edition, Le Blon's pupil Robert supplied the plates ... So far as we were able to determine, this is the only work of Robert's to appear in book form"--From bookseller's description (Wilsey Rare Books).
