The John Janney collection contains correspondence and business records related to mining in the early 20th century American West. Included are files related to John Janney's several properties and interests, most of which were in Lincoln County, Nevada, including the Ely Valley Mines, Mountain View Hotel, Pioche Mines Company, Pioche Power and Light Company, and Tenabo Mining and Smelting Company. This collection exists as an extensive and rich documentation of Nevada mining, especially during the Great Depression and World War II.

In this letter, written to a friend and fellow naturalist in Albany, Torrey talks about his book Flora of the northern and middle sections of the United States, which at this time was being issued in parts. He also asks his friend for botanical samples and mentions Lewis David von Schweinitz's book Monograph of the North American species of the genus Carex (1825).

The collection consists of the personal and business papers of Henry E. Huntington. There is material related to the Huntington, Holladay (Henry E. Huntington's sister Caroline married Edmund Burke Holladay), and Metcalf families, but most of the collection deals with Huntington's business interests in Southern California, railways, real estate, and industry. There is a series about Henry E. Huntington and his family that includes biographical information, newspaper clippings, photographs, scrapbooks, ephemera, and physical objects. There is material related to the Huntington Land and Improvement Company, Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, and the Pacific Electric Railway Company as well as other businesses in Los Angeles County, Orange County, and San Gabriel Valley, California. This material includes business records, account books, annual reports, correspondence, maps, tracts, balance sheets, and others. There is also material related to the founding of the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens including auction catalogs, invoices, receipts, and bills for art and rare books, and information regarding a lawsuit about Huntington's estate tax after his death, and the passing of Proposition 15, in 1930, which exempted The Huntington from paying California property tax. There is also material related to Collis P. Huntington and his business interests and Arabella Huntington. The largest series contains over 22,000 pieces of personal and business correspondence spanning approximately 1790 to 1950. The physical objects include Henry E. Huntington's lunch box, razors, traveling trunk, and other items.

This collection contains seven volumes of photographs and text covering activities of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services from 1930 to 1932. The Bureau of Housing and Bureau of Inspection are two of the divisions represented. The 457 photographs depict housing, schools, water supply, swimming pools, sewage disposal, dairy farms and milk plants, garbage and refuse disposal, and general sanitation, among other topics. Of particular interest is volume 1, documenting the "Hoovervilles" that sprang up throughout Los Angeles during the Great Depression. In contrast is the volume showcasing the state-of-the-art housing for Olympic athletes who were in Los Angeles for the Tenth Olympiad held in 1932. Titles of the volumes are: The Habitations of Unemployed in Los Angeles County, 1932 (volume 1); Activities of the Bureau of Inspection, 1932 (volume 2); Sewage Disposal Methods in Los Angeles County (volume 3); Picture Story of Milk in Los Angeles County (volume 4); Olympic Village, Los Angeles, 1932 (volume 5); Miscellaneous Scenes of Los Angeles County Department of Health Activities (volumes 6-7). Volume 4 was compiled by Richard A. Koch and volume 5 was compiled by C. G. Kahlert.

The Greene and Greene Collection contains a wide variety of materials, from Greene and Greene ancestor, architect/engineer James Sumner's "Memo of the Timber wanted for the Steeple in Providence," dated 1775, and a diary of a European grand tour from 1829 to 1931 by an English ancestor of Charles Greene's wife, Alice, to drawings and photographs of Greene and Greene works from the time of construction through the close of the 20th century. The bulk of the collection dates from 1889 to 1975. Photographs comprise most of the records documenting their architecture. There is a small number of architectural drawings; most of the firm's drawings are housed at the Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library at Columbia University, New York City, with a smaller collection of drawings from the estate of Charles Greene at the Environmental Design Archives, University of California, Berkeley. The collection is organized into four series: I. Personal papers, II. Office records, III. Job (project) records (including furniture), and IV. Related research materials. In general, the papers and records of both brothers have been kept together for the periods in which they were living together as students and young men, and for the period when they were partners in the firm of Greene and Greene. Within each series, the organization follows the separate lives and works of each brother from the dates at which they diverge. Although the collection has been assembled from many different sources, most items have a unique accession number identifying the donor, so that the researcher can easily identify the source of most documents.
