    The Cherokee War Path

    This hand-written manuscript is the story of a Cherokee war party's travels from Arkansas to the Tawakenoes (Three Canes) settlement along the Brazos River in east-central Texas. Their route, taken in 1827, went south to the Mexican border in order to pick up more warriors from the Texas bands of Cherokee. The narrative includes descriptions of other Cherokee tribes, the organization and rituals of the Cherokee nation, the natural landscape, and a few specific Cherokee warriors.

    An autograph manuscript of Rastrick's account of his life; the title page contains the subtitle: "...An unworthy Minister of Jesus Christ at Kirkton in Holland in Lincolnshire. And afterwards Preacher to a private Congregation at Spalding in ye same Country, & Rotheram in Yorkshire, and at Lyme-Regis in Norfolk." With limp vellum covers; in half morocco slip case. Facing the title page is a memorandum to Rastrick's son requesting that each of his children have an account of the narrative of his life; folio 89 is a family register which records deaths into the mid-eighteenth century.

    This collection contains 54 photographs by photographer Isaac H. Bonsall chiefly depicting the landscape and Union Army operations during the American Civil War in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Lookout Mountain, Georgia, Corinth, Mississippi, and the surrounding regions, from approximately 1862 to 1865. The prints primarily document encampments, buildings, artillery, steamships, railroad bridges, and soldiers. The collection also includes some portraits of soldiers and Union officers, including the officers of the 1st United States Veteran Volunteer Engineers and Generals William S. Rosencrans, John H. King, George H. Thomas, and Joseph Hooker. Among the images are two images of African American Union troops. A landscape view of grazing farm animals near Arkansas City, Kansas, is the only image in the collection that does not date from the Civil War, and also the only image carrying Bonsall's imprint. There are also two additional images that were not taken by Bonsall and include copyright information for N. Brown.

    Sir John Betjeman papers

    Manuscripts

    The papers consist of correspondence, poems, and drawings. The largest group of letters were written between John Betjeman and Jack Beddington and concern Betjeman's search for work during the Second World War as well as Betjeman's post-war writing projects. There are also letters between Beddington and Penelope Chetwode, Lady Penelope Betjeman, who married John Betjeman in 1933. The collection also contains one letter each from Talbot Hainault, T. Lillie-Costello, John William Pearce, and John Piper (with Betjeman). There are also three poems in the collection by Betjeman, written approximately 1939: "Ebenezer Jones," "The Godly Usher...," and "Upper Lambourne," and two original drawings.

    Business correspondence between A. C. Milner and John Janney

    The John Janney collection contains correspondence and business records related to mining in the early 20th century American West. Included are files related to John Janney's several properties and interests, most of which were in Lincoln County, Nevada, including the Ely Valley Mines, Mountain View Hotel, Pioche Mines Company, Pioche Power and Light Company, and Tenabo Mining and Smelting Company. This collection exists as an extensive and rich documentation of Nevada mining, especially during the Great Depression and World War II.
