Photographs of the gunboat Philadelphia at the Smithsonian Institution

    Visual Materials

A collection of ten photographs of the USS Philadelphia, a gunboat from the Revolutionary War recovered from Lake Champlain, shown in its permanent exhibition at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History (previously the National Museum of History and Technology). There are wide views of the ship, as well as photographs of individual details, such as the guns. The photographs are captioned in some detail on the verso in ink by naval historian Philip K. Lundeberg, who was a curator in the NMAH's Division of Naval History. The prints are from Smithsonian Institution negatives.
