Two art instruction books entitled Freehand Drawing, by Frances Beem and Dorothy Gordon, published by Bruce Publishing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Books 1 and 2, copyright 1924 and 1925. The first book is intended for instructional use for first year high school students; it emphasizes lessons in perspective. The second book is designed for second year high school drawing students; the images are considerably more complex than those in Book 1. While both volumes explain illustration and lettering, Book 2 also includes lessons on drawing in ink and figure drawing. Book 2 contains more color illustrations than Book 1, but the images are primarily black and white. Each book contains an introduction, instructional text, and a glossary of terms. Both covers are minimally illustrated, and the back covers of each are blank.

Educational and Industrial Drawing: Primary Freehand Series
Visual Materials
One drawing book entitled Educational and Industrial Drawing: Primary Freehand Series, No. 1, by Langdon S. Thompson, published by D.C. Heath & Co., Boston, Chicago and New York, 1874. This book is comprised of 24 lessons (3 to a page) and 2 additional lessons, without textual instruction. The front cover is decoratively illustrated, with a vase bearing the author's name. The back cover is a publisher's advertisement for the Educational and Industrial System of Drawing, by Langdon S. Thompson, offered for sale by D.C. Heath & Co. On the inside of the front cover are explanations and directions for use of the series and this book, which are continued on the inside of the back cover. Wrapped around the pages of text (so that they appear to be the first and last pages) are three horizontal half sheets in three primary colors: yellow, red, and blue. Each of the lessons allows space for copying and practicing; only the first three lessons have been filled in.
