Benjamin W. Topping papers
Manuscripts
Small group of letters, chiefly from Benjamin W. Topping to his sister and mother while he was away during the American Civil War from 1862 to 1864. In these letters, Topping mentions his experience in Army camps, rebel prisoners and deserters, the Battle of Fredericksburg, and African American troops. Several of his letters are written from St. Aloysius General Hospital in Washington, D.C. The rest of the material contains various letters by other family members and friends. There are also photographs of Topping.
