He relates the many historical events that he has experiences in the first months since his arrival: the bombing of Peking, the dramatic meeting in Nanking between the Manchurian warlord and President Chiang Kai-shek. He saw a good deal of Professor Elliot Smith when he was in China in connection with the "Peking Skull."
