    An autograph manuscript of the novel "Born in Exile," written between the years 1891-1892; with the original title "Godwin's Peak" crossed out on the first page. The novel deals with the themes of class, religion, love, and marriage and the premise of the novel is drawn from Gissing's early life.The manuscript contains additions and corrections by Gissing, with additional notes in pencil possibly by Gissing; the manuscript is made up of unbound, loose pages. The manuscript is housed in a brown morocco slipcase, with gold-tooled title and author's name on the spine.
