The first part (82 pp.) details Eck's journey from Düsseldorf to Chicago by way of Hamburg, Southampton, New York, Niagara Falls, West Point, Hudson, Philadelphia, Altoona, Johnstown, and Pittsburgh. The second part (100 pp.) contains the description of Eck's homeward journey from Chicago to Düsseldorf and includes visits to Omaha, Denver, the Rocky Mountains, Manitou Springs, Salt Lake City, the Sierra Nevada, Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland, Pasadena, San Gabriel, Los Angeles, Yuma, Tucson, El Paso, San Antonio, New Orleans, Tampa, Key West, Havana, New York, and Hamburg. Details of life aboard the ship, the sights of the "neuen Welt," gold digging in Colorado, Mormons and much more are included. All places visited are extensively reported on and contain descriptions of the cultivation, landscapes and vegetation, the native population, geology, culture, and religion. In German.
