Souvenir program organized by the Colored Citizens of Pasadena to raise funds for the Pasadena Municipal Band. The Municipal Band was founded in June 1929 by Henri J. van Praag. Performers in the benefit concert included the Pasadena Muncipal Band, and Etude Ethiopian Chorus with soloists Cora Leverda Morrow, and Mattie Duckett. Freita Shaw and Mattie Duckett are pictured on the page describing the Chorus and served as director and manager of the group respectively. The program contains numerous advertisements for local businesses, many African-American owned, and also the committee listings for the Colored Citizens Presentation Committee. Provides a snapshot of African American civic engagement and support of the arts in Pasadena, California in the early 1930s.
