Chiefly deeds (many medieval), with other estate and manorial papers, legal and financial documents, and a few letters and accounts, concerning lands or interest in lands held by the Egerton and other families in Cheshire, Staffordshire (principally Dilhorne and Fossbrook), Warwickshire (principally the lead mines at Hilton and Murton), Wales (principally the manor of Ridley in Denbighshire), and elsewhere. Also legal notes, briefs, and other papers, chiefly from the time of Lord Chancellor Egerton, relevant to legal cases involving lands (principally in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Hertfordshire). Includes returns of concealed lands in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Devon, Flint, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Middlesex, Monmouthshire, Somerset, Suffolk, Sussex, Wiltshire, and Yorkshire, 1584-85 (EL 11628-11633); copies of the inquisitions post mortem of Hugh de Redich, 1448 (EL 11263), Sir John Bromley, 1486 (EL 11276), and Agnes Pignot, n.d. (EL 11274); copies of the wills of John Boydell, n.d. (16th century?) (EL 11287) and Thomas Blewitt, 1702 (EL 11350); and an 18th-century poll book for Seisdon Hundreds, Staffs (EL 11548).
