    The collection contains Seth Barnes Nicholson's astronomical research and correspondence. The majority of Nicholson's research material deals with his study of Jupiter and its moons (Box 1). His other research (Box 2) includes his study of magnetic activity, the asteroid Icarus, Trojan asteroids, Pluto, Venus, the Sun and Sun spots (there is one item dealing with both Jupiter and the Sun in Box 1). There are some pieces of correspondence in the research folders. Most of the correspondence (Box 3) is between Nicholson and other astronomers throughout the world; the majority of it is also about Jupiter and its moons, asteroids and sun spots. Notable participants in the collection include: Giorgio Abetti, Astronomical Society of the Pacific, Robert Grant Aitken, Joseph Ashbrook, Ira Sprague Bowen, Leland E. Cunningham, Sturla Einarsson, Charles Federer, Paul Herget, Samuel Herrick, Theodor S. Jacobsen, Vladimir Kourganoff, Karl Otto Kiepenheuer, Gerard Kuiper, Willem Luyten, M. G. J. Minnaert, Yngve Öhman, Jan Oort, William Henry Pickering, Frederick Hanley Seares, Harlow Shapley, Otto Struve, Alexander N. Vyssotsky, Fred L. Whipple and Fritz Zwicky. The collection also includes several photographs.

    The collection consists of the personal and business papers of Zoë Akins (1886-1958). It includes correspondence with various literary, theatrical and motion picture figures of the first half of the twentieth century. There are also manuscripts of novels, plays, poems, short stories, outlines for plays, and articles. There is also correspondence related to her husband, Hugo Rumbold (d. 1932), and the Rumbold family. The collection also contains various photographs, manuscripts by others, and various business papers (including agreements, accounts, contracts, copyrights, and receipts).     This collection chiefly contains the papers, articles, notes, and research material of Dr. Emil Bogen. It also includes printed material such as off-prints of Bogen's and others' articles from medical journals. The material spans from Bogen's time in high school until his death in 1962. Subjects include: alcoholism, tuberculosis, the use of streptomycin, death, animal experimentation, diseases in World War II, hepatitis, childbirth, pathology, breast cancer, malaria, public health and poisonous spiders. Other subjects include: the Olive View Sanatorium, the Los Angeles County Hospital, and the California Tuberculosis and Health Association.
