The collection contains letters, narratives, and eight large volumes of clippings related to the members of the Jayhawkers, their overland trip to the California gold fields through Death Valley, and their annual reunions held between 1872 to 1918. It also contains diaries by Asa Haines and Sheldon Young of the Jayhawkers' route and a map of Death Valley by William Lewis Manly, approximately 1889. The collection was assembled by John B. Colton (1831-1919), a member of the Jayhawker party. Participants in the collection include: John Wells Brier, Reverend James Brier, William Frederick Dody, Jessie Benton Fremont, John Groscup, Eliza Poor Donner Houghton, Charles Fletcher Lummis, William Lewis Manley, Charles B. Mecum, and Lorenzo Dow Stephens. The collection also includes items related to Mary Hunter Austin, Frederic Remington, and Theodore Roosevelt.

This collection is comprised of the research material collected by historian John Cumming in his study of Michiganders who went west in the 19th century. The collection includes transcriptions of articles, diaries, and letters written by emigrants from Michigan to the American West, many of which were published in Michigan newspapers. The dates cited refere to the date of the original from which the transcriptions were created. Often the location of the originals is noted on the transcriptions. Also included are several items written by John Cumming. There is one folder that contains original letters from the Gold Rush era: Box 4 (13): Gold Rush Notes: contains original manuscript items and letters.

This collection primarily consists of assignments, coursework, lectures, and notes related to Frank Urbina's education and career at Lockheed - California Company. Some of the folders have a combination of notes, assignments, and lecture material. There are nine lectures from the Science Applications International Corporation related to Electro-Optics Sensor Analysis in 1988. In addition to coursework from Pasadena City College (PCC) and Los Angeles City College (LACC), there are items related to courses and training offered by Lockheed. There is a sporadic run of newsletters and periodicals produced by Lockheed from 1980s through 2000s. Box 3 consists of 3-D objects, newsletters, and a report related to L 1-11 Tri-Star, Flight Crew Familiarization.
