    Alaska souvenir photographs

    Visual Materials

An album with 29 commercial card photographs of Alaska, produced by brothers W.H. Partridge, E.J. Partridge, and Sam C. Partridge. Places shown include Fort Wrangle (i.e. Fort Wrangel, now the town of Wrangell), Sitka, Juneau, Muirs Glacier, Chilkat, Takou Inlet, and Killisnoo. Some of the photographs include settlers and/or indigenous people. One image shows the crew of the steamship Idaho, with some individuals identified on the verso. Two of the photographs of Muir Glacier and one of the photographs of Juneau, which uses the town's earlier name, Harrisburg, are from the studio of Isaac G. Davidson of Portland, Oregon (Items 13, 15-16). Based on research it appears likely that most of the photographs are by W.H. Partridge; it is possible that some are by E.J. Partridge.
