Some passages have been cancelled, most likely by the Examiner, with substitutions written in. Includes a letter to the Lord Chamberlain from Charles Macklin, stating his purpose in writing the play. Manuscript and printed text are virtually identical, except for the cancelled passages, which are printed as they originally appeared in the manuscript.
