The collection is made up of five ledgers, which include: 1. Business ledger from Illinois, 1877 to 1897, documenting various business ventures of Thorndike in Illinois, including railroad investments and shipping goods to the American south; 2. Agricultural ledger from Illinois, Minnesota and California, 1882 to 1941, documenting Thorndike's farming ventures in three states; 3. Pasadena Farmer's Club logbook, 1898 to 1905, containing the minutes of the club's meetings (Thorndike was secretary); 4. Sunny Hope Ranch log, 1900 to 1912, documenting Thorndike's daily work on his ranch in Pasadena, with details about his agricultural products, produce, crops, and the Mexican and Asian workers on his ranch, as well as his work as horticultural inspector; and 5. Sunny Hope Ranch log, 1912 to 1921, a continuation of the previous logbook. Most of the ledgers have loose items inside their front and back covers including documents and newspaper clippings.
