    The collection consists of 298 photographs, 1878-1951 (bulk 1890-1915), collected by Orrin Peck, portraitist and landscape painter, and his sister Janet. Primarily portraits, the photographs depict friends and acquaintances (both identified and unidentified) of Orrin and Janet Peck, with particular emphasis on Phoebe Apperson Hearst and William Randolph Hearst. Also included are California scenes, including numerous views of San Francisco; unidentified residential exteriors and interiors; views of Mrs. Hearst's home, La Hacienda del Pozo de Verona in Alameda County, California; and views of William Randolph Hearst's castle "Wyntoon" (designed by architect Julia Morgan) near Mount Shasta, California.     White Mountain Apaches and Papoosi

    This disbound album contains 123 photographs taken by photographer A. Frank Randall between 1883 and 1888. The images include studio and field photographs of Apache Indians taken during the United States military campaign to capture Apache renegades during the Apache Wars. The majority of Randall's photographs are portraits of men, women, and children from various Apache tribes in Arizona and New Mexico. Among these photographs are images of a fox tamer; a fiddler; a flutist; a well-dressed, possibly high ranking Apache man; medicine men; young girls; mothers and their infant children; and Apache chiefs. Portraits of United States Army officers and scouts include Nelson A. Miles, Leonard Wood, Wilber E. Wilder, Roger Ames, Henry W. Lawton, William A. Thompson, Amos S. Kimball, John A. Dapray, Thomas J. Clay, Frank P. Bennett, Buffalo Jack, an Arizona female scout, and Apache scouts. Randall also included photographs of Rancho Camulos, many of which show people dramatizing scenes from Helen Hunt Jackson's novel "Ramona." Antonio Franco Coronel appears in some scenes. Other images include views of Missions Santa Barbara and San Juan Capistrano, what may be Vasquez Creek and Tujunga Canyon near Los Angeles, and views of Guaymas, Mexico.

    This collection consists of one photograph album with 48 photographs and 35 loose photographs (as well as some duplicates), with images depicting the Fair Oaks Ranch in Altadena, California, during the late 19th century. The ranch, owned by businessman and rancher James F. Crank, encompassed a vineyard, winery, and citrus orchards, along with a lavish residence and grounds. Subjects include interior and exterior views of the residence, landscaped grounds, trees, and plant life; members of the Crank family; ranch workers, including Chinese laborers, working in the orchards and vineyard, harvesting and packing fruit, drying apricots, and loading fruit onto horse-drawn carts; workers' quarters; the operations of the winery and distillery; and also a handful of sweeping views of the San Gabriel Mountains and the Altadena and Pasadena areas taken from vantage points on the property. The photographer of the album is unknown; some of the cabinet cards and stereographs have imprints from area photographers: C. McMurtrey (Item 80), C.B. Ripley (Items 73-74), and A.C. Varela (Items 76-78). Photographs in the album are cyanotype prints; the loose photographs include cyanotypes, cabinet cards, and stereographs.
