Records of a Barataria Bay sugar plantation, 1842-1846
Manuscripts
Two ledgers evidently kept by the plantation's overseer from February 1842 though March 1846. The first ledger, titled "Plant. Memorandum for 1843 & 1844"(HM 69629) documents deliveries to and shipments from the plantation from Feb. 1842 through 1846. The second ledger titled "Plant. Receipt & Delivery Book Including List of Slaves from 1st Feb. 1842" (HM 69630) is a log consisting of daily entries detailing weather and everyday works and activities on the plantation from Feb. 1 through March of 1844.

Manuscript (holograph) of fragments of the journal of Henry David Thoreau in 3 envelopes. Envelope I contains 30 leaves are assigned by F.B. Sanborn to a period before 1848, including 20 consecutive leaves for 1843 September 24-1844 January 7. Envelope II contains 52 leaves said by Sanborn to be portions of a Journal volume covering the greater part of 1848, the whole of 1849, and more than 3 months of 1850. There is a partial index to this volume in Thoreau's hand. Envelope III contains a miscellaneous group of 13 leaves, dated about 1842-1850 that were segregated by reasons of publication.

List of foreigners in California prior to 1840
Manuscripts
List of names of British subjects and citizens of the United States who resided in Alta California prior to 1840 with places of residence, profession, and date of arrival if it could be ascertained. The register notes that there were French, German, Portuguese, Italians, natives of the Sandwich Islands and foreigners of color in residence. Also noted was the fact that subjects of Spain and citizens of South American Republics were not classified as foreigners. One 13 page list is alphabetical. The other 20 page list is chronological by date of arrival with an alphabetical list.

The orderly book and accounts kept by Captain Nathan Strong of the 4th New York Regiment. Included are: the orderly book kept at Peekskill, N.Y. from March 19 through June 9, 1777. The rest of the manuscript contains two entries for January and March, 1778 and miscellaneous military and personal accounts kept by Nathan Strong.
