Image of a print showing a colorful board game with red, blue, and yellow spaces on a snake-like ribbon numbered from 1 to 122. The game is illustrated with 32 vignettes of views, caricatures, and portraits relating to American history. The illustrations are numbered and correspond to starred spaces on the ribbon. The title is decorative in red, white, and blue stripes, and towards the left of the title is a picture of an American flag with 34 stars and 7 stripes. Players roll dice to move across the board and then follow the instructions listed on the illustrations to move forward. The top of the print includes a portrait of George Washington, and the bottom of the print includes two engravings. The engraving on lower right is labeled, “96. Give the Player two throws” and includes an illustration of a man standing near a cabin and farming supplies. The engraving towards the lower right of the print is labeled. “119. Home of the Washington Family: the Player has lost, and muse cease to play,” along with a view of Washington’s home. Print is bordered on all sides with decorative motifs of leaves and flowers.

The Jay T. Last collection of sports and leisure prints and ephemera contains about 1,770 printed materials related to the history and advertising of athletics, recreational activities, pyrotechnics, gambling, and games in the United States. The materials date from approximately 1758 to approximately 1938, although the bulk of the items date from the mid-19th to early-20th centuries. The collection consists of about 67 large-sized items, and over 1,000 smaller-sized items, including paper dolls, playing cards, trade cards, puzzle cards, dime novels, and promotional billheads and letterheads. Images on the materials range from scenes of indoor pastimes such as billiard and board games, to outdoor sports and activities like roller skating and horse racing. Some materials also include advertisements for fireworks and other pyrotechnic products, largely promoted for Fourth of July celebrations. The collection also consists of many broadsides announcing lottery and charity drawings that took place in Delaware, Maryland, Louisiana, Wyoming, Kansas, and other parts of the United States. Many of the drawings were organized by reputed swindlers at the time, like J.M. (James Monroe) Pattee and L.D. Sine. Some of the drawings organized by the Louisiana State Lottery Company were also officiated by former Confederate generals G. T. (Gustave Toutant) Beauregard and Jubal Anderson Early. In addition to sport materials, this collection also consists of items relating to toys and novelties. Items range from paper cut-out templates, to playing cards, holiday toy listings by retailers, and toy advertisements by manufacturers such as the Milton Bradley Company and the McLoughlin Bros. A significant portion of this collection includes paper dolls with fashion accessories, published either as promotional product advertisements by companies, as art supplements by newspapers, or as toys retailed to consumers.

The collection consists of correspondence, business and financial papers, family notes, bound volumes, and ephemera related to the Banning family and collected by Katharine Stewart Banning. It includes most of her original notes on family traditions (particularly Christmas), and genealogy. The correspondence consists primarily of family letters, and correspondents include Ellen Banning Ayer, Frederick Ayer, Elizabeth Lowber Banning, George Hugh Banning, Hancock Banning (1865-1925), Joseph Brent Banning (1861-1920), Katharine Stewart Banning, Phineas Banning, William Banning (1858-1946), William Lowber Banning, William Phineas Banning, Beatrice Ayer Patton, and George Hugh Smith. The legal, land, and financial papers include contracts, deeds, titles, and statements of account for Banning properties in and around Los Angeles. The miscellaneous manuscripts include sewing instructions from the American Red Cross, notes on Santa Catalina Island, and some photographs, as well as copies of printed articles on the life of Phineas Banning. Volumes include "Memories of Phineas Banning" (c.1895-1909), a Yale scrapbook belonging to Joseph Brent Banning Jr. (1889-1969) with accompanying ephemera, a Virginia Military Institute yearbook (1914) owned by Hancock Banning Jr. (1892-1982) with accompanying photographs, embossed volumes used to copy stories and poems and owned by Ellen Barrows Banning (Ayer) and May Alice Banning (1876), a Banning Rancho log book (1889-1894), various family scrapbooks assembled by Katharine Stewart Banning, various notes on "Bill's Comfort Bag for Soldiers and Sailors" (c.1917-1941), and Katherine's Los Angeles Children's Hospital notebooks, as well as a diary she kept while traveling to England aboard the Lusitania in 1914. Also included in the collection are various published books owned by the Bannings and miscellaneous ephemera.
