Manuscripts
This collection consists of two series: the Grace Nicholson papers (2,926 items) and addenda (1,444 items). The papers consist primarily of correspondence, while the addenda is primarily notes. Both relate to Grace Nicholson and her work in the fields of Native American and Asian art. There are many letters from Native Americans to Nicholson and extensive diaries and notes that Nicholson kept on her buying trips through Native American territory, especially of the Karok, Klamath, and Pomo Indians. Subject matter includes Native American legends, folklore, vocabulary, tribal festivals, basket making, business in art trade, and living conditions. There is also a considerable amount of correspondence from China, Japan, and Korea between Nicholson and her buyers. Among the subjects covered are Chinese art and architecture, Japanese art, Korean art, Javanese textiles, Siamese art, Philippine art, life and social conditions in Asia, and the business of trading Asian art. Being a well-known dealer in Native American and Asian art, Nicholson was in contact with many artists, such as Frederick Arthur Bridgman, W. Herbert Dunton, Sadakichi Hartmann, Elizabeth Conrad Hickox, Louise Merrill Hickox, Grace Carpenter Hudson, George Wharton James, Lilian Miller, Hovsep T. Pushman, Joseph Henry Sharp, and Millard Sheets. Nicholson also purchased materials for institutions such as the Field Museum of Natural History, the Honolulu Academy of Arts, the Los Angeles Museum of History, Science, and Art, the Pasadena Art Museum, and the Southwest Museum in Los Angeles, California. Her intimate relationships with Native Americans give particular insight into their lives and culture. Historians and academics sought her out, including Alfred Lewis Kroeber, Charles Fletcher Lummis, and Clinton Hart Merriam. Nicholson also received letters from political figures such as Frederick Webb Hodge, Herbert Hoover, Hiram Johnson, and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The Banning Family Collection of Photographs, Part II, 1814-1979, consists of 1204 photographs and 23 photographs albums. The three most substantial categories of images in this collection are views of Santa Catalina Island; Banning family properties and residences in southern California; and portraits of family members and relatives. Of special significance are the Catalina photographs documenting the development of the island from a natural enclave with a few inhabitants to a thriving tourist resort. Volume 7 in the Family Album section contains images of the devastating effects of the Catalina fire of 1915. Also of particular interest are photographs of the George S. Patton family.

Manuscripts
The Manuscript series is arranged alphabetically and contains appointment books, diaries, family histories, and speeches written by various family members. The oldest items in the collection belonged to Captain Alexander Horn. One item is a seaman's journal which tracks the voyages Captain Horn made between New York and New Orleans and between New York and the British Isles from 1809-1812. The other is a photographic copy of the Horn Log that contains original correspondence with Trinity Church, New York, the National Maritime Museum, and the New York Public Library which help authenticate the Warren and Horn families' relationship to Captain Horn. The appointment books were kept by the Warren family from 1897 to 1906, the diaries were kept by Minnie Horn Warren later in life, from 1932 until the time of her death in 1953. There is one diary that was kept by C.C. in 1913. The appointment books and diaries often track the day-to-day activities of the family and document the weather and its impact on the orchards. The family history entries were written by various family members including Leslie A. Warren, C.C. Warren, Minnie Warren, Goldie Zumwalt Warren, Alexander Horn, 1814-1905, and John H. Zumwalt, later in life. John H. Zumwalt was the grandfather of Goldie Zumwalt Warren, the wife of Leslie Warren. In his manuscript John recounts his family's journey to California in 1854. The speeches were written by Leslie A. Warren and were presented at the fiftieth anniversary of the San Dimas Orange Growers and Lemon Growers Association.
