Although the majority of the collection was written by Leroy Jackson, there are several other authors contained in the collection including David Greene, William Hobart Hare, John Collier, John Johnson Enmegahbowh, Lynn J. Frazier, Joseph Alexander Gilfillan, Charles Lemon Hall, Samuel William Pond, W. Carson Ryan, Alfred L. Riggs, Thomas Lawrence Riggs, Jedediah Dwight Stevens, and Frederick Jackson Turner. The material covers the following subjects: early missions and missionaries to Native Americans in Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin; Indian schools in Alaska and New Mexico; the Navajo; the Hopi; the public school and university in America and American education; progressive education; probation and the juvenile court.

The Jonathan D. Bulkley collection of illustrated billheads and letterheads contains about 36,000 billheads, letterheads, flyers, and other ephemera relating to commerce and industry in the United States from 1758 to 1952, with the bulk of the items dating from 1840 to 1910. While most of the items document products or services manufactured by American companies, countries such as Cuba, France, Great Britain, Germany, and Mexico are represented as well. Imagery and text on the materials pertain to the history of production, finance, consumerism, and advertising. Many of the items include graphic logos, decorative images of views of storefronts and factories, and detailed representations of the various products manufactured for sale. Typography on the materials also include visual motifs of varying text styles and printing techniques. The collection contains items that are both engraved, as well as lithographed. The "California Gold Rush Fleet Encyclopedia of Vessels Sailing from the East Coast of the United States and Canada for San Francisco, December 7, 1848-December 31, 1849" comprises individual histories of 762 ships as well as various subject files, arranged in alphabetical order. Goodman records a broad spectrum of information derived from a variety of sources about the multitude of Gold Rush vessels. The bulk of the manuscripts are photocopies and some are heavily annotated in the author's hand. Some histories include hand colored illustrations of maps and ships. They were written and edited between 1970-1991.
