Manuscripts
This collection contains of the business records of the Merrymount Press and the related papers of its founder Daniel Berkeley Updike (1860-1941). The bulk of the collection consists of financial volumes; correspondence with customers, publishers, illustrators, craftsmen, and suppliers; bills; estimates; and scrapbooks with specimens of work. While the majority of the correspondence is comprised of letters, there are occasionally proofs, specimens, and cloth, paper, fabric samples, etc., found with the correspondence. The records reflect Updike's involvement with printing across the United States and in Europe, though much of his work was produced for clients in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York City. Some of the correspondence reflects Updike's personal interests including Rhode Island history and churches and charitable work with poor children as well as prison inmates.

Manuscripts
The chronologically-arranged documents demonstrate the range of legal, administrative, ecclesiastical, military, and genealogical records initiated by government representatives, lawyers, litigants, clerics, and laypersons from the late sixteenth century to the middle of the nineteenth century. The bulk of the records are legal and contractual, including wills, testimonies, inheritance cases, power of attorney contracts, and financial agreements between individuals and/or institutions. Administrative and ecclesiastical records mostly include appoiintments to secular and religious offices as well as some Inquisition and genealogical documents. Military records document pensions, compensations, and other payments made by the Royal Treasury to former military officers. Prominent persons and places of colonial and national Mexico and Guatemala are represented in the collection, such as Juan Francisco de Güemes y Horcasitas, first count of Revillagigedo and viceroy of New Spain from 1746-1755; Juan Nazario Peimbert, lawyer who proposed the formation of an Indian army in the event of a French invasion in 1809; and Juan Antonio de Vizarrón, Archbishop of Mexico and Viceroy of New Spain from 1734-1740.

Manuscripts
The collection consists of manuscripts by Partington, James Agate, Jessie Conrad, R. B. Cunninghame Grahame, John Kirkby, and H. D. C. Pepler; these manuscripts include articles, essays, personal narratives, poems, and short stories. The correspondence mainly relates to Partington's work with the Bookman's journal, his books about Sir Walter Scott, and his various literary endeavors. The main subjects of these letters reflect the work and interests of Partington, including bibliography, forgery, and the authors Joseph Conrad, Sir Walter Scott, William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and Thomas James Wise. There are also letters by Partington, mainly carbon copies, and a small group of letters from his family and friends. The collection also includes his research files and a small amount of ehpemera.
