Letter regarding possible threats of attack on American shipping in the Mediterranean Sea by the "Bashaw of Tripoli"; the U.S. sending three frigates, and a Sloop of War to the area. Also giving permission to share information about the situation with Great Britain. The letter documents the beginning of the Tripolitan War (1801-1805), also known as the First Barbary War or the Barbary Coast War.
