This collection contains 101 issues of periodicals with content written by or about the British author Evelyn Waugh between 1923 and 2010, with the bulk of the items dating from 1930 to 1965. 76 of the items contain articles or stories by Waugh. The remaining 25 items contain reviews of his books and articles about him. More than fifty periodical titles are represented, ranging from small literary journals to large weekly news magazines in England and the United States. The collection inventory below contains entries listing the periodical title, volume and issue number, date, publisher and publisher location, article title, page numbers, author of the Waugh-related pieces, and, when applicable, the item's number in A Bibliography of Evelyn Waugh (Whitston Publishing Company, 1986) by Robert Murray Davis, et al.

Manuscripts
The collection primarily contains correspondence and documents of Thomas Haines Dudley. Dudley's personal and political correspondence, including 22 volumes of diplomatic correspondence, reflect his entire political career. Also present are 1 volume of copies of Confederate correspondence, documents (including 8 account books and 2 volumes of memoranda), 6 scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous pamphlets, photographs, and other printed material. Subjects include Whig and Republican politics; local, state, and national elections and conventions, including the 1860 Republican National Convention; political affairs in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including information on Camden and Amboy Railroad and Transportation Company; the politics and government in the New England states, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois are covered to a somewhat lesser extent. There are some items relating to the U.S. Sanitary Commission. Items also document affairs of the American consulate in Liverpool, especially pertaining to Confederate shipbuilding and blockade running, British claims against the United States after the war and efforts to confiscate Confederate property in England, and routine consular matters. This portion of the collection includes photographs and drawings of Confederate ships. Dudley's legal practice and personal affairs, including his interest in political economy, are reflected in his correspondence with Henry Charles Carey. Presidential items in this collection include Chester A. Arthur letter to Thomas Haines Dudley, 1872 February 1 (DU 87); Ulysses S. Grant letter to Thomas Haines Dudley, 1866 March 9 (DU 1820); Andrew Johnson letter to Thomas Haines Dudley, 1865 December 24 (DU 2434).

Manuscripts
The manuscripts mainly consist of speeches or short pieces written by Gurdon Wallace Wattles regarding business practices, Nebraska, and his political views. It also includes scripts written by True Boardman. The majority of the correspondence is from Gurdon Wallace Wattles or addressed to him. These letters deal with his business matters in both Nebraska and California, family news and business, and there are many which describe the Wattles House and Gardens, especially the decorating of the Italian garden. There are also letters pertaining to the disposition of his will. Another set of letters describes Wattles' investment in a company which explored sound in film technology. The Ephemera section contains material relating to the Wattles family and their life in California. Among these materials are drawings for the Italian garden, weddings plans for the two daughters, membership cards, invitations to private and public events and photographs of the family on vacation and at the Wattles property. There are also materials related to the disposition of Wattles' will, some business papers and materials related to musicians the Wattles' supported. Participants include: Harry Chandler, Herbert Hoover, Henry Workman Keller, Robert Andrews Millikan, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Gurdon Wallace Wattles, Jr., and the Republican National Committee.
