The collection consists of letters (including 1 letter book), manuscripts (including 50 diaries), documents (including 55 account books, 12 cash books, and 5 miscellaneous volumes), and photographs related to the lives and activities of various Janin family members and the extended Janin-Blair-Jesup-Croghan families. Subject matter in the collection includes: politics and government in Washington, D.C., and Louisiana; society and customs in Washington, D.C., and New Orleans; Blair House (Washington, D.C.); land titles in Indiana Territory, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Missouri; the Ocean Canal and Transportation Company, which ran from Louisiana to St. Louis; the history of Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, from the time of purchase by John Croghan in 1839 until 1932, when it became a national park (at which time Violet Blair Janin was the primary owner); and mining in Australia. Persons represented in the collection include: James Lawrence Blair, Mary Jesup Blair, Violet Blair Janin, John Croghan, William Croghan, Albert Covington Janin, Louis Janin, Julia Clark Jesup, Thomas Sidney Jesup, George M. Wheeler, and Lucy James Blair Wheeler. Organizations represented in the collection (with which Violet Blair Janin was affiliated) include: Daughters of the American Revolution, National Association Opposed to Woman's Suffrage, National Cathedral Association, National Society of Children of the American Revolution, and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.

Typed history of Cache County, Utah, compiled by M.R. Hovey between 1923 and 1925. Topics covered include the discovery of Cache Valley and the trapping period, Jim Bridger's involvement in 1824, the Hudson Bay Fur Company's visit of 1833, the visit of Captain Charles Fremont in 1843, its exploration by Captain Howard Stansbury in 1849, the ranching period, the colonization period and Maughan's Fort, the organization of Cache County in 1857, the Utah War, resettlements in the late 1850s, the early settlement of Logan in 1859 (including irrigation, industry, government, etc.), newspapers in Cache County, the development of transportation and pubic utilities, and the histories of schools, mail services, livestock, freighting, and logging. Also included are histories of the early settlements of Mendon (1859), Richmond (1859), Smithfield (1859), Hyrum (1860), Paradise (1860), Millville (1860), Hyde Park (1860), Clarkston (1864, including testimony by Martin Harris), Newton (1869), Lewiston (1870), Benson (1871), Trenton (1872), College Ward (1879), Franklin, Idaho (1860), Weston, Idaho (1865), and Preston, Idaho (1877).

Collection of letters of Thomas Nast and his family -- Sarah Edwards Nast and Thomas Nast, Jr. There are twenty five letters by Thomas Nast, chiefly addressed to his wife, written during his trips to England and Italy to cover the Heenan-Sayers prizefight and Giuseppe Garabaldi's military campaign in Sicily (1860), (this group also includes six letters addressed to William Luson Thomas, 1830-1900), the tour of Pennsylvania battlefields in the summer of 1863, the trip to Washington in the beginning of 1872, his 1873 lecture tour, and from Guayaquil, Ecuador (1902). Also included are three letters from Sarah Edwards Nast to her husband (1859 and 1869). There is also a copy (in the hand of Mrs. Nast) of a satire of Andrew Johnson ("So sayeth King Andy Johnson"), perhaps a caption to a political cartoon.
