A collection of approximately 5,000 items from 1924 to 1975, which consists of research materials, journals, manuscripts, correspondence, and notes related to LeRoy Reuben Hafen's works on the American West. A substantial portion of the collection relates to The Mountain Men and the Fur Trade of the Far West (1965 to 1972), and includes materials on fur traders, trappers, Native Americans, trails, and the history of the West, as well as correspondence with contributors to the 10 volume series. The collection also includes reviews and material on Western History Conferences.
