Group of early printed leaves from the Burndy Library collection. The leaves are from various provenances and sources. Three leaves are from the Cyril Stanley Smith collection: 1. Joannes Balbus. Catholicon, approximatley 1470. 2. St. Augustine. De Civitate Dei, approximately 1470. 3. Nicolaus de Lyra. Postilla super totam bibliam, approximately 1474-1477. There is also a group of 31 leaves from Schendel, Hartmann, 1440-1514. Liber chronicarum (commonly known as the Nuremberg chronicles) from both the Latin and the German editions; a single, hand colored leaf in from the German language Liber chronicarum (Blat CCII) with an accompanying note that it was found in a wrapper from Becon Book Shope, 23 So. Euclid Ave., Pasadena, Calif. Anton Koberger printed the Latin edition of the Liber chronicum on 12 July 1493, with the German language edition following on 23 December 1493. Also included is a leaf from Avicenna, 980-1037. Qānūn fī al-ṭibb (Latin title: Canon medicinae) translated into Hebrew from Arabic. This leaf is identified as being from the Hebrew edition printed in Naples by Azriel ben Joseph Ashkenazi, 1491.
