"Note the Latitude and Longitude of Saltillo, Monterey, Laredo, Bexar, Nacogdoches and the Point where the boundary line leaves the Sabine are from the observations of General Teran of the Mexican Army." Texas is a State of Mexico but significantly not included in the cactus branches of the Mexican shield on this map. Grants to Austin and others were attempts to settle Mexican Texas with citizens who would be loyal to Mexico. Note lower left gives the terms of the grants. Cartouche: Mexican eagle on cactus.
