One magazine entitled John Martin's Book, A Magazine for Little Children, Volume 1, Number 4, published by John Martin's House, Inc., New York, March 1913. This illustrated magazine is 96 (unnumbered) pages in length, and includes stories, poems, rhymes, recipes, drawing and coloring work, songs, and activities, among others. Many of the pages bear advertisements at the bottom, and much of the last 40 pages are full-page manufacturers' advertisements. The front cover is a color illustration of an oversized owl sitting on a branch, with two children nestled into him, and a fairy reaching out to the sleeping children with a long, leafy branch. On the inside of the front cover is a poem, and the inside of the back cover is an advertisement from the toy company F.A.O. Schwarz entitled "Playing House is Lots of Fun". The back cover is an advertisement for Colgate toothpaste, in rhyme. The illustrations throughout are in both black and white and black and red. Some have been colored in, with paint and/or crayon, by a previous owner. "Mrs. Roberta E. Sargent" is written in ms. on the front cover, and "2.00" (price) is written in ms. on p. 1.
