The Historia trium regum (The History of the Three Kings) is the best-known and most detailed medieval account of the legendary travels of the three Magi. It was written around 1370 by the Carmelite scholar John of Hildesheim. It is based on the Gospel account of the visit of the Magi to Bethlehem, but adds a large amount of material from apocryphal and legendary sources tracing the return of the three kings to the East.
