The Vitae patrum is a sixth century collection of legendary biographies of saints, built from the base of biographies and legends on Egyptian hermits already compiled in Greek (Apophthegmata Patrum or Sayings of the Fathers). The Latin collection contains translation or original writings of St. Jerome, Rufinus, Sulpicius Severus, Cassianus and others. This text underwent enrichments and interpolations.
