Tropicals
Most plants growing in The Rose Hills Foundation Conservatory for Botanical Science are from tropical areas. They are grown indoors because they require a higher year-round temperature and humidity level that our Southern California climate does not offer. Some plants growing outdoors at The Huntington may be tropical in appearance, but they are warm-temperate or subtropical species better suited to our natural environment. Highlights of the Tropical Collections include unusual palms, aroids, orchids, "ant plants," and carnivorous plants. The following photos show a small sampling of the more than 2,000 varieties of tropical plants in our collections.
