Roses
The Rose Garden was created in 1908 for the private enjoyment of Henry E. and Arabella Huntington. The three-acre garden has gone through many transformations since that time. It now comprises more than 2,500 individual plants and more than 1,300 cultivated varieties (cultivars). Enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, the spring bloom begins in late April and extends beyond Thanksgiving, thanks to Southern California’s mild climate. All the colors and fragrances of the roses combined with the many perfumes and textures of the nearby Herb Garden create a sensory delight that brings visitors back repeatedly. Roses named to honor celebrities are always a fun find in our Rose Collection. Peruse a few of the more popular people-titled roses below.
