Posted on Wed., Dec. 10, 2025
Craig Santos Perez, Avery Distinguished Fellow, dives into The Huntington's archive of rare books and maps.
In this lecture, Perez—recipient of the National Book Award for Poetry, faculty member in ethnic studies at MiraCosta College, and The Huntington's Avery Distinguished Fellow—discusses his in-progress monograph, Pacific Islander Eco-Poetry: Indigenous Knowledge, Environmental Justice, and Climate Change. He also highlights several of the collections and archival materials that he engages with while at The Huntington, including maps of the Pacific islands and ocean, as well as sources related to Hawaiʻi, Guam, Samoa, and the Marshall Islands.
This is the Avery Distinguished Fellow Lecture and is part of The Huntington Research 2025-2026 "Active in the Archive" lecture series.
