Doyle Lane: Master of Clay

This short documentary film explores the life and art of ground-breaking modern ceramicist Doyle Lane (1923-2002), grounded by an archival interview of Lane sharing the evolution of his art practice in Southern California. The film tells the story of a Black artist working in the mid-century who made significant contributions to the history of California Design, Studio ceramics, and the Black arts community in Los Angeles.

Featuring interviews with Channing Smithson, Dale Brockman Davis, Mel Buchanan, Alric Lane, Lauren Cross, Rudy Estrada, Ian White, Lee Whitten, Stanley C. Wilson, Ricky Swallow, Gerard O’Brien, Cynthia Jackson, Ben Serar, Bobbye Tigerman, Xochi Flores,  Mandela The Story Teller, and David Ronquillo.
