Explore centuries of otherworldly ideas, alien lifeforms, and unearthly travelogues through presentations and special displays of rarely seen objects from our History of Science vaults, and discover the eerier side of The Huntington. Highlights include:

6:30–7:15 p.m. and 8–8:45 p.m. | “The Strange Science of Astronomy: Past and Present” | Rothenberg Hall
Explore astronomy's fantastical theories and fascinating discoveries, past and present, with a panel of astronomers, historians, and engineers, moderated by Peter Sachs Collopy, university archivist, Caltech. Speakers include:
- Tracy Drain, JPL Psyche mission deputy project systems engineer
- Eun-Joo Ahn, astrophysicist and graduate student in history, UCSB
- W. Patrick McCray, professor of history, UCSB
- John Mulchaey, Crawford H. Greenewalt Chair and Director of the Carnegie Observatories

7:15–8 p.m. and 8:30–9:15 p.m. | “Boarding Now: A Journey to Mars” | Haaga Hall
The Planetary Society's Mat Kaplan, host and producer of Planetary Radio, and JPL Chief Engineer Rob Manning compare fact and fantasy in mounting an expedition to the Red Planet.

7–7:45 p.m. and 8:15–9 p.m. | “Otherworldly Life: From Terra Incognita to the Extraterrestrial” | Munger Research Center Loggia 
Highlighting extraordinary items from the Library’s collections, Joel Klein, The Huntington’s Molina Curator for the History of Medicine & Allied Sciences, explores the curious history of how humans have imagined otherworldly life in philosophy and fiction, from uncharted earthly lands to distant galaxies.

The team from NASA’s Exoplanet Exploration Program takes you on a tour through the galaxy to discover alien worlds and strange planets through interactive displays.

Look to the Skies 
Meet the Planetary Society’s Southern California outreach volunteers and learn more about space science and exploration.

Before the Telescope
Meet 16th century astronomer Sophia Brahe (portrayed by Tanya Klowden) who contributed significantly to her famous brother’s research, and Elizabethan alchemist Dr. John Dee (Malcolm Scott) who will discuss his experiments.
