Sun., May 3, 2026, 8:30–11:30 a.m.Sun., June 14, 2026, 8:30–11:30 a.m.
Public: $50, Members: $45
Education and Visitor Center, Roger’s Classroom, and various garden locations
During each workshop, participants will explore a different garden or work of art, followed by a nature-inspired creative writing prompt, all guided by instructor Kimberly Lee. As they connect with the beauty of the natural world, attendees will be encouraged to observe and reflect for inspiration and personal insight. Back in the classroom, participants will continue the theme of each garden visit through intuitive collage-making. These collages will serve as a springboard for further journaling, deepening the connection to nature and creativity.
Enjoy a creative morning to explore the wonders hidden within everyday life. Visit the Herb Garden, where familiar plants like lavender and lemongrass carry centuries of household wisdom. Then, peek into “Stories from the Library: From Brontë to Butler,” an exhibition revealing the daily lives of women writers through journals, letters, and personal objects. Inspired by these discoveries, participants will engage in reflective journaling among the gardens, excavating vivid moments from their own lives. Back in the classroom, they will craft an intuitive collage to inspire further exploration of meaning and memory.
Inspired by “This Land Is...,” explore personal connections to land, belonging, and heritage. We’ll begin in the Oak Meadow, where native plants and iconic oaks embody resilience and regeneration. Then, step into the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art to view powerful images, documents, and contemporary art. Drawing from these encounters, participants will follow gentle writing prompts that invite playful shifts in perspective to create a collage reflecting on their relationship to place—whether shaped by geography, ancestry, memory, or imagination, to honor the stories we carry and the landscapes we call home.
