In this engaging class, students will learn techniques to create vibrant, expressive portraits. We’ll explore color mixing, layering, and brushwork to bring depth and emotion to your subjects. Suitable for all skill levels, this course emphasizes hands-on practice, personalized feedback, and mastering the delicate balance of watercolor’s fluidity. Join us to create stunning portraits that tell a story!

Supplies and Materials
The following items can be purchased at your local art supply store or online at dickblick.com, cheapjoes.com, jerrysartarama.com, or amazon.com.
- Watercolor Paints: Professional or student-grade set (tubes or pans) with essential colors (e.g., cadmium red, magenta, ultramarine blue, prussian blue, cadmium lemon yellow, cadmium yellow, and any other colors you wish)
- Watercolor Paper: Cold-press, 140 lb (300 gsm), 9x12" block or pad or larger (e.g., Arches )
- Brushes: BHA Liner Brush Made by Master Xu and any other you like
- Palette: Plastic or ceramic with mixing wells
- Watercolor Board or Tape: To secure paper
- Pencils & Erasers: 2B pencil and kneaded eraser for sketching
- Water Containers: jars or cups
- Paper Towels or Rags: For blotting and cleanup
- Optional: Masking fluid, sponge, and a spray bottle for effects.
About the Instructor
Robert Sherrill is a Southern California artist who portrays the majestic beauty of the natural world around him. Whether it’s watercolor or oil, he captures the effects of light, shape, and color in his exhilarating paintings.

- Tickets are not sold at the door for this event.
- To join the waitlist for this event, please email publicprograms@huntington.org. A space is not guaranteed, but you will be contacted if a space becomes available.
- To receive a refund, you must cancel at least 5 days prior to the event. Cancellations made within 5 days of the event will not be refunded.
- Members may receive a discount for up to two tickets.
