Huntington 101

Wed., July 30, 2025, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Two Wednesdays, July 30 and Aug. 6 | Tickets: $85
Munger Research Center, Ahmanson Reading Room
In this two-part series, Randy Shulman takes participants on a journey through The Huntington’s origins, history, and renaissance, as well as the dramatic changes over the past 30 years. The class concludes with a special reception on the second night.
Schedule
July 30: Meet Vanessa Wilkie, William A. Moffett Senior Curator of Medieval Manuscripts and British History and Head of Library Curatorial, who will give attendees a peek into the curator’s role in the Library and how they manage and grow the collections. Attendees will also learn about a few rare objects and their fascinating history.
August 6: Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Library’s conservation lab, where bound and flat objects are restored and conserved. Attendees will meet Kristi Westberg, Senior Book and Paper Conservator, who will share an overview of her work and lead a lab tour.
In order to ensure space for new participants, we ask that only those who have not taken the class previously sign up. Those who have completed Huntington 101 may join our interest list for the upcoming Huntington 102, which will be offered later this year.

About the Class Facilitator

Randy Shulman
Shulman is the Senior Vice President for Advancement and External Relations. He works closely with and promotes collaboration among the president, senior staff, and governing boards to build relationships and fund operating and strategic initiatives.
Randy’s history of involvement with The Huntington is now in its 45th year. He started at The Huntington as a 12-year-old volunteer with a dream—to have a chance to someday make a difference in this special place.
“The Huntington is something we in the San Gabriel Valley should be very proud of,” says Shulman, “Aside from becoming the stewards of a large piece of America’s social history DNA for scholars, on the public side we can help immerse students, teachers, and casual visitors in the beauty of nature, art, and humanities. We can offer many fine examples of what makes life worth living.”

The Huntington Art Gallery is the former home of Henry and Arabella Huntington.
