Culinary Workshop: Zongzi for Dragon Boat Festival

Zongzi is a traditional Chinese food prepared and eaten to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. This comforting dish consists of sticky rice stuffed with a variety of sweet or savory fillings, then boiled or steamed in a bamboo leaf wrapper. Instructors Rachel and Erika will guide you through preparing the ingredients and wrapping your own zongzi.

- All food supplies and materials are included.
- Recommended for adults only, but all skill levels are welcome.
- Vegetarian and vegan-friendly options available. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions beforehand.
- Cross-contamination with soy, nuts, gluten, and eggs is possible, those with severe allergies are advised not to attend.
- Registration includes free admission to The Huntington after the class.
Class Details
- Pre-made samples will be available for tasting during the class.
- Zongzi prepared in class need to be cooked at home. This takes 3 hours on the stove or about 2 hours in an Instant Pot or similar pressure cooker. Complete directions will be provided in class.
Day of Program
- Check in with Education staff at Admission window #10 at 9:30 a.m.
- Bring a cooler (and an ice pack if you’re traveling a long distance) to transport your zongzi home.
