Creative Series: Introduction to Hand-Sewn Bookbinding

Participants will craft unique books while exploring historical binding techniques and drawing inspiration from The Huntington’s collections. Presented by Nova Community Arts, this four-week program includes three different bookmaking projects that are designed to give you a taste of historical techniques to make books by hand. Activities include a gallery visit, learning different stitching and binding styles, assembling a case-bound hardcover book, and a guest talk from a Huntington book conservator.  

Nova Community Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit art studio in Los Angeles dedicated to serving underfunded populations in Los Angeles and providing inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities by offering art classes, workshops, open studio access, and guest programming.
