Championing Inclusive Design
Some of the most meaningful accessibility improvements at The Huntington have been made possible by dedicated patrons who believe that everyone should be able to experience the beauty and educational resources the institution offers.
One such advocate is Annamarie Mitchell, a longtime supporter of The Huntington’s infrastructure initiatives. Her commitment to accessibility began during the tenure of James P. Folsom, former Telleen/Jorgensen Director of the Botanical Gardens. Mitchell, along with two other key supporters, worked closely with Folsom to expand access to the gardens with easier-to-navigate pathways—especially for visitors using wheelchairs or pushing strollers.
Their collaboration led to the creation of a new accessible path in the iconic Rose Garden, a project that continues to inspire. Building on that vision, dedicated donors’ continued support has recently helped fund an enhanced path that connects the Lily Ponds to the Ombú Circle in the Jungle Garden.
