This year's Founders' Day Lecture features American historian Drew Gilpin Faust—the 28th president of Harvard University (retired June 2018) and the first woman to serve in that role. Faust discusses how historical writing in recent decades has extended our understanding of the U.S. Civil War. Going beyond the worlds of generals and statesmen, historians and librarians have been able to overturn many long-held assumptions about the war’s causes, motivations, and consequences.

Light supper available for purchase in the Barth Family Entry Grove starting at 6:30 p.m.
A complimentary dessert reception follows the lecture.
