Take a fresh look at the life and legacy of Ulysses S. Grant in this six-week seminar taught by historian Ronald C. White, author of American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant. Grant has been remembered as the Union general who won the Civil War and was elected to two terms as president, but he has also been recalled as a poor president, a drunkard, and a butcher heedless of the deaths of his troops. It's time for a reevaluation, White believes. The seminar's focus will be on the formative period of Grant's life, and then his roles as general, president, and writer of one of the great memoirs in American letters. Designed for lifelong learners, the Huntington U Fall Seminar Series offers students a chance to immerse themselves in college-level courses, but there are no papers to write, no final test, and no prerequisites.
