Art critic and historian Tyler Green, and Bill Deverell, director of the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West, discuss Green's new book, Carleton Watkins: Making the West American in this afternoon talk covering topics including the West and the Civil War, the rise of Yosemite and the National Park idea, and the fascinating life of arguably the greatest photographer in all of American history. The Huntington is home to one of the world's most important collections of Carleton Watkins photography.
