CANCELED - How to Read Chinese Calligraphy
7:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
It's not necessary to know the Chinese language in order to appreciate Chinese calligraphy: The strokes of ink and brush notate a performance that can be experienced kinesthetically by both artist and viewer. Richard E. Strassberg, professor emeritus of Chinese at UCLA, presents an approach to reading Chinese calligraphy that enables viewers to more authentically engage with the visual gestures of this important and expressive art form.
