Join curator Peter Blodgett for a private tour of the exhibition “Visions of Empire: The Quest for a Railroad Across America, 1840–1880.” Through a display of letters, diaries, tourist guide books, railroad posters, and photographs, the exhibition illuminates the remarkable changes wrought by the transcontinental railroad. Al Martinez: Bard of L.A.
March 17–June 25, 2012
The six-decade-long career of Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and author Al Martinez is showcased in an exhibition that looks back at how the writer has chronicled the foibles, peccadilloes, accomplishments, and, sometimes, sad plights of those around him. The exhibition highlights about 75 items from The Huntington’s collections, including newspaper cartoons, notes, corrected typescripts, first editions of his books, and more.

From Memorial Day (May 28) to Labor Day (Sept. 3) The Huntington observes summer hours and is open from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily (except Tuesdays).
