French Travelers to the East: Jean de Thévenot and Cultural Exchange in the 16th and 17th Centuries

A 17th-century portrait of Jean de Thévenot by Philippe de Champaigne, one of France’s most important Baroque painters, is the centerpiece of this focused exhibition exploring themes of cultural exchange in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Transport yourself to the gardens of Venice in this summer evening program on the loggia of the Huntington Art Gallery. A lecture on 18th-century Venetian garden statuary will be given by Flaminia Gennari of the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami, followed by a performance of Italian music by artists from LA Opera. Roger Medearis: His Regionalism

American painter Roger Medearis is the focus of this exhibition including more than 30 paintings, prints, drawings, letters and photographs, tracing the artist’s career from his beginnings as a student of Thomas Hart Benton through the development of his own distinctive style.
